The Hermes Standard Specification
IPC-HERMES-9852: The Hermes Standard Specification
For some in depth analysis of The Hermes Standard, you may download the specification document free of charge. If you are a manufacturer of SMT assembly equipment, you may as well implement The Hermes Standard in your products without any license fee. However please let us know what you did and in which products you implemented it. For more information, please refer to our terms of use.
For the latest version (released April 08th, 2024) please download The_Hermes_Standard_Version_1.6
For a compatible version with smaller feature set please download The_Hermes_Standard_Version_1.0.2 (Test driver available) or the latest version The_Hermes_Standard_Version_1.0.3 (Test driver under development)
Note: Previous versions are available upon request only.

Implementation of The Hermes Standard
Recommendations on how to work with the Hermes Standard
The Hermes Standard enable high level features on top of the basic board transfer mechanism. Here are learning’s and recommendations from members of the initiative working with The Hermes Standard.
- IT Success factors (pdf) – Preparation for a Hermes Standard factory installation
- Hermes Best Practices (pdf) – How to use the Hermes Standard when implementing automatic width, automatic program change etc.
The Hermes Standard Source Code
The Hermes Standard Initiative is absolutely committed to the open standards philosophy. Therefore, we make everything you might need available online free of charge, even if you are not (yet) a member of the initiative.
So, if you consider starting the implementation of the The Hermes Standard for your equipment, you might want to do this based on the available open source implementation of The Hermes Standard protocol.
Please note: According to our principles, this can be done by members as well as by non-members. However, we want to explicitly highlight the advantages of being a member of the initiative for all vendors of SMT assembly equipment. Clearly: all vendors are invited to join.
The open source implementation can be found at GitHub (see hyperlingk below the disclaimer).
Please understand that if you decide to do so it will be all at your own risk. For more information, please refer to our terms of use.
With downloading any of the files hyperlinked at this site or at our GitHub resource, you agree to those terms.
Please feel encouraged to provide your implementation of The Hermes Standard to others via GitHub to speed up the distribution of The Hermes Standard in industry.
Test & verification
The Hermes Standard Test Driver
If you need to test your The Hermes Standard implementation, you might want to do this using a The Hermes Standard Test Driver as developed by ASM for internal purposes. The SW is available for download here and can be used free of charge.
However, ASM will not accept any liability for any damage caused by dowloading, unpacking, installing, and/or running the software. Nor do they guarantee compatibility with the standard even when your implementation passes the test. Further, ASM cannot accept liability for any damage or other harm caused by products tested against the driver, regardless whether it failed or passed the test.
Please understand that you are using the device fully at your own risk. For more information, please refer to our terms of use.
With downloading any of the files hyperlinked at this site, you agree to those terms.
